Quilting - Step 2 (The Fabric)

This series is for my dad. He learned a lot about quilting while we were in Bayfield for New Year's, and he seemed surprised at all the steps involved in quilting. I started this quilt back in January, but have been waiting to publish the posts detailing each and every step until after I gave the quilt away to its intended recipients.

STEP 2: The Fabric

I think picking out fabrics may be my favorite step. It's so much fun to wander around the quilt shop looking at all the pretty fabrics, trying to imagine how they will look when the quilt is finished.

Since this was going to be a gift, and since I don't really know Brad and Katie's color preferences that well, I asked about their wedding colors. (People don't pick wedding colors that they wouldn't want in a quilt, right?) Katie responded, "we're using a peacock feather for color inspiration. So it's like a deep turquoise blue and many different shades of green."

I like turquoise and I like green, so it was lots of fun to pick out these fabrics:

There's a long way to go from these fabrics to a finished quilt...
