BWCAW

Just like you can't be a real Minnesotan without visiting Itasca State Park and walking across the headwaters of the Mississippi, I also think you can't be a real Minnesotan without canoeing in the Boundary Waters. Well, after this weekend I will be a real Minnesotan!

Mike has been busy organizing most of our trip (getting the permits, organizing our camping supplies, renting a canoe from an outfitter, etc.), with the exception of food. He said he was "happy to eat these for every meal." Luckily I'm fluent (well, at least proficient) in husband-speak, so I was able to accurate translate his words into wife-speak: what he actually meant was "I would rather eat yummy home-made meals, but I don't want to bother with the hassle of organizing them." I thought so.

Enter Steph's mad kitchen skills. I'm trying several new recipes from this book (which Mike got for his birthday from Mac - Lucy bought him this), so I hope they turn out. At least they'll probably be better than eating only freeze-dried instant meals (which, incidentally, has apparently been Mike's plan for when he thru-hikes the Superior Hiking Trail?!? Ummmm, okay....).

Here's most of the food, ready to go:

We leave on Friday! (So no running updates - or anything else - until after we get back next Wednesday, and probably not until the weekend at the earliest.)
