I'm having a bit of poster's remorse today. As in, "did I really say all those things in my last post?!" Why yes, yes I did.
And then some.
Oy.
Well, now that some of the crazy is out (as my friend Ryan likes to say), I figure I might as well keep going, right? No sense in retreating now!
But before I go further, I just wanted to give a HUGE thanks to everyone to responded to my last post. I think my poster's remorse has to do with the fact that I've now proven without a doubt that I'm not perfect - as if I had you all fooled all this time! So thank you all for supporting me because of all my imperfections and struggles as a person, not despite them. I really appreciate it. I got a little teary reading the wonderful comments and emails you wrote. Thank you!
So consider yourself a part of our fertility journey... :)
Now on to today's update on that journey:
Right now I'm re-reading Making Babies: A Proven Three Month Program for Maximum Fertility. It's really good! A nice merger of Eastern and Western medicine. Since I can't get in to see my doctor until mid-March anyway, I figure I might as well take this time for a "pre-mester" in order to get as healthy as possible.
I've only skimmed through the book once, and it seems like my Chinese medicine types are "Stuck" and "Tired" (not "Pale," "Dry," or "Waterlogged"). Sounds ominous, I know. Some of the recommendations so far are:
Tired
More animal Protein
Avoid raw and cold foods
Alcohol in moderation
Consume warming soups and stews, and spices: cinnamon,
ginger, cayenne, turmeric, cardamom, cloves, cumin
Regular moderate exercise
Stuck
Regular aerobic exercise
Plenty of fiber
Stress reduction
Hot water with lemon in the morning
Complex carbohydrates
Avoid soy products
Avoid alcohol
Those all seem reasonable. Interestingly, in my very unscientific internet research, the very fertility problems that I'm worried about (i.e., low progesterone / luteal phase defect and endometriosis) are the ones most associated with my (suspected) Chinese types. Hmmm...
So now I'm going back and re-reading the relevant parts a little more closely. Hopefully I'll come up with a personalized "action plan" in the next few days. I want some specific goals to shoot for - like maybe 10 or so reasonable things that I can work on achieving in the next few weeks. I figure that implementing the plan for about a month before seeing my doctor certainly can't hurt.
Similarly, my mom sent me a link with information about herbal remedies for fertility. I'm planning to research that as well, and to also incorporate that into my "action plan."
Watch for an update in the next few days/weeks!
And, on a completely unrelated note, I'm eagerly anticipating the Super Bowl this Sunday!! With that in mind, enjoy these cute kids and their Packerfied song:
