So I learned a long time ago that I need ongoing motivation or else I lose my steam. I've always had to have the next race (or next degree, or whatever) to look forward to, or else I lose all interest in maintaining my exercise plan (or doing research, or whatever). Hence my fitness petering out after the Pikermi in August. So rather than let my muscles atrophy even more, I decided to start looking at races for 2011...
...and I found the Monster Series!
I now have my races set for 2011:
Polar Dash 5K on 1/1
Get Lucky 7K on 3/19
Minneapolis Half Marathon on 6/5
Minneapolis Duathlon on 8/28
Monster Dash Half Marathon on 10/29
I'm excited, but also a little nervous about it all. I've never signed up for a race so far in advance - What if I get sick? What if I get injured? Even more importantly, what if I get pregnant? But at the same time, I'm tired of waiting for my life to start. I've put off any number of things "just in case," and I'm tired of only planning three months ahead of time on the off chance I get (and stay) pregnant. If that happens and I have to forego the entry fees for the last two races in the series, so be it - I would consider it a small price to pay. And if it doesn't happen, at least I have some things to look forward to in 2011 and I'll be well on my way to staying in shape.
So wish me luck! It's an ambitious plan for 2011, but it should keep me on track to meeting or surpassing my running mileage from 2010. Here goes nothing!

I love what you said about putting things of just in case. I did that all last year and it didn't get me any closer to what I really wanted...a baby! I also keep thinking about when my life will get started (of course it's based on getting pregnant) and loved reading this! Thanks!
