Off the grid

This has been such a busy summer! I still have two more blog entries to catch up on (the Pikermi and the family reunion), and now we're off again!

At 4:30am on Saturday morning we're headed up to the North Shore to hike a chunk of the Superior Hiking Trail! It's an early departure because we have to get to Beaver Bay in time to drop off our car and pick up the Superior Shuttle promptly at 9am. The shuttle will then drive us about 40 highway miles up to Cook County Rd 1 (near Shroeder) and then we'll have about 7 days to hike the 60-ish trail miles back to our car.

I'm super excited and also super nervous! This will be my first big through-hike (as opposed to hiking to a spot, staying there, then hiking out), other than the miserable pre-frosh trip I did in 1997. I think I'm a bit more prepared now, so hopefully I'll have a more positive experience!

After work tomorrow we're going to finish all our packing, turn off all our electronics, then get to bed early for our early AM departure.
