Mike pointed out the other day that he is the brunt of some teasing on my blog. He was (and now I am) worried that this might cause the casual reader to have an inaccurate understanding of his personality. So, for the record, I want to clearly state that I inadvertently engage in "Mike-deprecating humor" (instead of self-deprecating humor) solely because when I exaggerate in this way I think it makes a better story. So, for example, when I blogged about him finally "letting" me order us a new mattress despite my years of nighttime discomfort, this was an exaggeration in the sense that *I* was never willing to spend the money before either, but now that he is similarly uncomfortable I can finally justify to myself this kind of expensive purchase. When I blogged about him losing the car keys in the bathroom, we remember differently exactly how that conversation went and how many back-and-forths we had that morning. When I blogged about Mike spilling a container of bleach on our dirty laundry pile, that did actually happen, although it turned out we really only ruined one of my shirts and one pair of his pants (lucky!) not the whole pile of clothes as I may have inadvertently led you to believe.
At the same time, I hope my blogging has been very clear about how wonderfully supportive he is in so many ways. From handling the spiders that intrude on our abode (in my tea mug!!!!), to tolerating all my toiletry revamping due to fear of xenoestrogens, to going out of his way to be supportive when I'm sick or in pain or more pain, to making yummy dinner, to supporting my hobbies (like photography and travel and running and quilting and reading and eating chocolate), he's a pretty fabulous husband over all.
So please take the Mike-deprecating humor with a grain of salt. I'm prone to exaggeration to tell a better story, but I certainly don't want you to think he's a bad guy or that I don't appreciate how wonderful he is!

I think every wife does that, because husbands typically do some pretty funny things (I always meant to write a book, with pictures). And it makes for a good read for all your fans. Everyone loves Mike! Even more so now, because we know, that just like everyone else, he isn't perfect. Plus, he's giving me some ribbing over the years....... He should be able to take it!
