Gratitude

I want to be more mindful of all the positives in my life, so here is a sampling of some of the things I've appreciated in the last few days.

Saturday: getting to run in the Get Lucky 7K. It was cold and it was hard work, but it was nice to get outside for a run and it kicked off my training for my next half marathon in June. And, I was really proud to have an 11min mile average! Not super fast, I know, but fast for me!

Sunday: I had my bi-weekly walk with Dotty and her son Carl, which is always lovely, and this week was even more lovely because we met up at the zoo! I love the MN Zoo - and I'm super excited for the new penguin exhibit that's opening this summer.

On my way home from the zoo I stopped at JCPenney to pick up a couple new bras. On a whim I got measured, and I learned that I've been wearing the wrong size! I am really appreciating the comfy new bras that I got (in the correct size!) and now I'm encouraging all the women I know to get fitted!

The crappy part of the weekend was Sunday night, when I got an email from my (former) running buddy stating that she values our friendship but no longer wants to run together because I'm so slow that it's physically painful for her to run with me. Yeah, that hurt. I mean, I know I'm slow, but to have it pointed out to me like that (after several years of what I thought were happy running dates) really hurt. And it made me feel awful about the previous day's race, when I had felt so proud of my fast (for me) time up until then. So the thing I appreciated about all that (after a couple hours of feeling rejected and crying my heart out) was that I have a wonderful husband to dry my tears. And, once again, it forced me to remind myself that I'm exercising for myself - yet another reminder to love myself simply for who I am. Man, I hate having to learn that lesson again and again!

Monday: staff yoga! A free one-hour yoga session at work each week? Yes, please. :)

Tuesday: I'm re-reading Clan of the Cave Book, a book I first read in 7th grade. It's really interesting think back to what I thought of the book then and compare that to what I take from the book today.

Wednesday (today): frozen mango from Trader Joe's + Fage greek yogurt = yummy smoothie

And even though we're in the midst of yet another snow storm, I'm choosing to be thankful that it will melt soon! (Right?)

Oh - and I'm also thankful that I only live 2 miles from work, so hopefully my snowy and slippery commute won't be too bad!

I am thankful for you and that April is right around the corner! I heard some birds chirping on the ride in and all of a sudden I was transported back to summer days.. Warm sun, the smell of fresh cut grass, picking veggies from the garden, not having courses...ahh, how I love summer.
