Afton State Park

Mike wanted to go camping for the 4th of July, so we made reservations at Afton State Park. He knew my parents used to camp (in our big old camper trailer that we hauled around), so we invited them along as well. Much to my surprise, they accepted! It was so much fun. Thanks for coming along, Mom and Dad!

Here they are on arrival:

We finally made it to the campsite ("a strenuous mile walk from the parking lot") and could relax!

Here's Mike, asleep in our little (light) tent:

Here's my parent's tent, which was *huge* (and heavy!). You could have ballroom danced in that thing! (See how much more of the tent pad it takes up, compared to ours?!)

We saw lots of wildlife, including a deer, a turkey family, a pileated woodpecker, and a whippoorwill (which sang above our tent all night long. lovely).

We did a bit of hiking, but mostly just sat around, ate, and slept - very relaxing!

Here's the "after" picture of my parents. They survived! Hopefully they'll join us again on a future trip!

it was fun. Also to put your parent's tent in perspective, their tent pad was about 50% larger than ours and it still took up the whole thing!

....but boy, was it comfortable! Especially that blow-up mattress; you know, the one that had to be reblown every 2 hours!

Looks like a lot of fun and a very relaxing way to spend the holiday weekend!
