Bacon-wrapped water chestnuts

These are so bad for you, but SOOOO yummy! They were quite the hit at our annual murder mystery party last night (the theme of which was "trailer trash").

Bacon-wrapped water chestnuts
1 (8 ounce) can whole water chestnuts, drained
1/4 cup soy sauce
1/4 cup brown sugar
8 slices bacon, cut in half crosswise

Marinate the water chestnuts in soy sauce for 1 hour.

Drain most of the soy sauce off, then add the brown sugar and stir well. Wrap each chestnut (or a few of the sliced water chestnuts, if your grocery store doesn't carry whole water chestnuts) with a piece of bacon and secure with a toothpick.

Arrange in a baking pan lined with parchment paper. If there's any brown sugar / soy sauce mix left in the bottom of the bowl, drizzle that over the pan before baking.

Bake at 400 degrees F for about 45 minutes or until golden brown. Drain on paper towels and serve hot. (NOTE: This can be prepared ahead of time and stored in refrigerator until ready to bake.)

Unfortunately I forgot to get an "after picture," and by the time I remembered they were all gone! Oops.
