State Fair!

I've been so far behind on blogging! This is the first chance I've had to tell you about the State Fair, which I went to with my parents on Aug 28 (while Mike was busy studying for his prelims the next day).

We started off the morning bright and early in the food building. :)

Then we headed to the coliseum to see some horse judging.

The mini horses with carts was like something out of Twin Peaks!

Then we toured all the animal barns.

And observed the rides on the Midway.

We saw all the crop art.

And looked at the prize-winning veggies.

We tried some yummy honey ice cream.

And admired all the different shades of honey.

We noticed art on the street...

...as well as in the fine arts building.

 We wore silly paper hats.

We sang along.

We watched the parade. (My first time ever seeing it!) The U of M marching band members looked like they were having way more fun than I ever had while marching.

The parade also had a pickle?

 And poultry royalty?

There were so many odd sights that day!

I usually only go to the fair every 3-4 years, so it was fun to check it out again this year. I'm hoping that Mike will be able to go with me the next time I get the urge to go.  But the good news is that all of Mike's studying paid off and he passed his oral prelims with flying colors the next day! He is officially a doctoral candidate! Yay, Mike!! (Which meant we got to celebrate with a delicious dinner at Heartland later in the week. YUM.)

Thanks, Mom and Dad for the fun day at the fair!
