It's time for the Weekend Update.
(ha ha)
So I have a date for surgery: June 21. (Gah!)
I'm both incredibly excited (to get it over with) and incredibly anxious (due to my incredible abilities to catastrophize). I'm glad I have a very understanding and supportive boss who did not give me a hard time at all about taking time off on such short notice. In fact, she encouraged me to make sure I ease my way back in after surgery and don't try to just come back full-time the following week. Thank you, Joan!
Mike told me that one of our friends was planning to stop by that week and bring flowers - luckily he told her politely encouraged her not to. I wouldn't want to presume that anyone else would also have this thought, but on the off chance that it has occurred to anyone else, please allow me to thank you in advance for your kindness while also gently deterring you. I love, love, love flowers, but so do Lucy and Mac. As a result, we can either enjoy the flowers with the cats locked in a separate room, or we have to lock the flowers away to enjoy the company of the cats. It's a no-win situation. Instead, just tell me you wanted to send me flowers and I'll very much appreciate the thought. :)
Now, because I'm sure you're all sick to death of hearing about my health and fertility (I know I am!), here's a running update!
This morning I ran my second ever Pikermi (aka half marathon - because 13.1 miles shouldn't be considered half of anything!). When I initially signed up for this race last fall I had been hoping to set a PR compared to my debut Pikermi last year. However, with everything I've been dealing with the last couple weeks (and the last week in particular: bad stomach/uterus/ovary/cyst pains and major GI issues), I decided to revamp that goal to just finishing. (Although, of course, in the back of my head I was still kind of hoping for a PR...).
The morning was HOT, the course was HILLY, and my headphones died just before mile 1. (Seriously?!? UGH.) It was recipe for disaster. So with all that, I really (truly!) was proud to have even come close to my previous time. In the end I finished in 2:42:05 (12:23/mi) -- not far off from my "record" of 2:41:16. I'm proud of that, particularly given the circumstances!
Mike was only able to get one photo of me as I was "blazing" toward the finish line:
Thanks, Mike, for coming out to support me!!!
