In some ways it feels like just yesterday that Mike and I graduated from college and were headed out to Connecticut for him to work at Pfizer and for me to nanny during the summer before I started grad school. In other ways it feels like the full TEN YEARS that it's actually been. Yes, ten years since I left Carleton....but this weekend we get to go back. It's reunion time!
Rachel (my old roommate) and her husband (Josh, another alum) are headed out to MN right now as I type. I'm so excited to see them! Tomorrow I have to work a half day, then we're all going to the Twins game in the afternoon before we head down to Northfield. It should be a whirlwind fun weekend, if our five-year was any indicator of what we have in store!
Reunion wraps up Sunday, then I work a long day on Monday, then surgery is Tuesday! I'm so glad I have reunion to distract me from all my worries (like that I'll die, that they'll suddenly have to do a hysterectomy, that they'll have to convert to a full laparotomy, that they'll find the cysts are so bad that I'll never be able to have children, that they'll discover the cysts are actually cancerous....yes, these are my real worries. Can you see why I'm happy for a distraction?).
In other news, MarathonFoto posted pictures from the Minneapolis Pikermi. Since prices start at $15 for a 5x7 I certainly won't be purchasing any of the photos. But I thought I'd share the link (here) so you can also be amused by how dreadful I look when I run. In case you don't want to click over there yourself, here are some of the highlights:
First, a tiny screen shot of all the photos:
Next, me looking surprisingly chipper (since I'm missing my music) as I shuffle my feet toward the halfway mark:
Now me looking pissed that I'm going slower than the walkers next to me and I still have over six miles left to go:
Now me kicking it into high gear:
Oh wait. I did not magically get abs and an ability to run fast. Apparently their photographer was smoking crack when he mistook that woman for me. Sigh.
Me taking my thousandth walk break as I wonder what ever possessed me to sign up for this stupid race (or at least to wonder why I didn't replace my defective earbuds earlier!):
But to end on a high note, here's a picture of me that I actually like!
Me for real, actually looking semi-decent as I run the last tenth of a mile to the finish line:
