I just discovered this new blog, so I thought I'd put in a plug for it.

About Weightless

“Weightless…a blog about body image, the skinny fad and freedom from numbers”
Weightless is about well-being, not weight; about fostering body image, regardless of your size. It’s about exposing women’s magazines, other mediums and so-called experts, when they’re touting unhealthy tips and promoting restrictive standards.
The goal of Weightless is to help women develop a better body image and work toward accepting themselves as they are, while being healthy and happy (fad diets and skinny-mini standards prohibited!); and to become sharp consumers, who can pick apart a commercial or magazine article and know which advice is helpful or harmful.
Some of the features you’ll find:
Minding the Magazines. How often have you picked up a women’s magazine, and after flipping through the pages, felt like you had to be on a diet and exercising every day of the week? Though women’s magazines feature many positive pieces, we regularly get a skewed look at what’s attractive and a stringent view on food and fitness. These posts will point out when magazines dish out bad advice on dieting, exercise and “healthy” habits.
Minding the Media. This involves mediums like TV shows and movies. When they’re spewing negative body image or promoting unrealistic standards (hello, the Biggest Loser!), we’ll call them out on it, pronto!
Related News and Research. Whether it’s the latest Photoshop scandals, an attack on unfit celebrities, magazines forgoing models or research on eating disorder symptoms, we’ve got you covered.
Body Image Boosters. Having a healthy body image doesn’t just affect your feelings about your looks, it affects your overall well-being. Research has shown that high levels of body dissatisfaction are connected to low self-esteem, depression, anxiety, unhealthy habits and eating disorders. We’ll feature a variety of tips on how to help boost your body image.
Check it out!
