1. Gatorade tastes nasty at first, but then *really good* as the day wears on (and the miles add up).
2. Even at an official training walk, they don't organize any official stretching time (for some reason I thought - and hoped - they would, since I tend to be bad about stretching).
3. 12.5 miles is really far to walk without a friend (I missed you, Salwa!). Yes, I met some great people, but that also led to some really awkward moments. For example, when I ran into one of Mike's coworkers, who had no idea who I was. Or the really nice woman I started walking with at the beginning who, it turned out, walked *much* slower than me and was very, very talkative.
4. Everyone wears lumbar packs :)
5. On the 3-Day everything needs to be in ziploc backs, Salwa and I need to buy painter's plastic to go over our tent, and the tarp they provide goes IN the tent (not under it).
6. The tents (6.5' x 6.5') seem pretty spacious in person, but their recommended duffle bag size seems ridiculously small, considering we're supposed to keep our sleeping bag IN the duffel.
7. Walking with 300 other people makes for a reeeeaaaallly slow start. I can only imagine what walking with 4000 people with be like.
8. Speaking of... when you get that many people together who are all walking for breast cancer, it looks like PINK threw up on everything! I haven't seen so much pink since I don't even know when.
I guess that's about all I learned. Overall, it made for quite an interesting morning.
In other news, I have a new niece! Step-brother-in-law Jason and his wife Emily had their second daughter on Thursday:
Isn't she adorable?!
Oh! And I also made what I hope will be my last outfitting purchases. I got a few more pairs of socks, some anti-blister stuff for my first pair of shoes (my pinkie toe blisters are still there on both feet, and I also developed a new blister on my right big toe today), and a new pair of shoes so I can start alternating my shoes in my training. Woo-hoo!
